Co je to konvertor ?
Konvertor tedy LNB - Low noise block nebo LNC - Low noise convertor: umisťuje se na ráhno paraboly, což je vlastně její ohnisko a soustřeďuje se v něm přijímaný signál. Konvertor slouží pro převod kmitočtu z pásma GHz do řádu MHz, což už umí zpracovat vstupní díl satelitního přijímače. Citlivost konvertoru udává tzv. “šumové číslo”. Čím je nižší, tím je konvertor lepší. Dnes je běžná hodnota dobrého konvertoru okolo 0,3 dB.
Vlastní konvertor je zařízení, které konvertuje, tedy převádí vstupní kmitočty přijímaných satelitních signálů z pásma 2,5 GHz (S band), 4 GHz (C band) a 11-12,5 GHz (Ku band) na kmitočty tzvn. první mezifrekvence 950-1750 MHz, kterou už je schopný satelitní přijímač zpracovat. Přenos přijatých vysokých satelitních frekvencí po koaxiálním kabelu by totiž nebyl možný. Ke konverzi se používá směšování (často s kruhovým modulátorem s vysokofrekvenčními Shotkyho diodami) s kmitočtem lokálního oscilátoru konvertoru.
